Sunflower Lane

Together with a group of friends, Marlike Marks bought a garden house near the Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam in 2022. The idea quickly arose to take photos of the ever-changing garden, everything that grows and blooms there, and everyone who comes to visit – a snapshot of her friends moving within the canvas of the garden.

“On free evenings and weekends, there is always someone to be found in the garden. If possible, we try to meet up with a group of friends there regularly. It feels like a parallel world there where everything temporarily slows down and the hustle and bustle of everyday life can be forgotten for a while.”

The changing seasons are a metaphor for blossoming friendships, relationships and mutual bonds, and how these shift, change, become closer or fade away again as time passes. View the works in the exhibition Sunflower Lane from September 14th to December 22nd at Ballon Rouge. The opening will take place on September 14th from 16:00-19:00.
