Publication IN YOUR FACE 2.0

In connection with the exhibition IN YOUR FACE 2.0, CBK Rotterdam presented a publication of the same name during the finissage on April 27. This publication bundles 120 self-portraits, made by Rotterdam artists who identify as women. The publication is now for sale via Art Office, CBK Rotterdam.

Cindy Stegeman, who works at Art Office, was involved in the realization of the catalogue. During the book presentation she emphasized the importance of this publication: 'This is not just a book. It is something we made together, because it is important. It was born out of a desire to capture these voices and stories, so that they are not lost. It has been our way of ensuring that this message continues to exist, even after this beautiful exhibition is over. And a little hint: as Xandra Nibbeling also beautifully puts it in her foreword for this publication. I quote: “Extra attention for women in art, is that really necessary? You have been seeing more women in the visual arts for a long time, haven't you? Yes, it is necessary. No, that time is not over yet.” This touches the core of what we are trying to say here today. We see progress, but it is not enough. Initiatives such as about A woman are of great importance, because they point out the inequality that still exists. They claim space where it is not always given.'

About the exhibition
IN YOUR FACE 2.0 was on display from March 27 to April 27, 2025 in Doelen Art, Studio 2. about A woman, initiator and organizer of the exhibition, invited all artists who identify as women and are registered with CBK Rotterdam, via an open call to show work. By means of self-portraits, the artists literally gave themselves a face and made a collective statement. All self-portraits are made on A5-size paper and presented with equal distance from each other, at the average eye level of a Dutch woman.
