BELOW CONTROL

In MUSH-ROOM, you can descend into a space where the fast pace of daily life fades away and makes way for a calmer rhythm. BELOW CONTROL, an exhibition by Leonie Fernhout and Thomas Meijerman, explores surrender as an act of radical connection: with our bodies, our emotions, and the world we share. The artists invite you to slow down and feel the tension between surrender and control. The renewed installation RESONANCE IN REBELLION by Jolique Geurts and the late Tipp Bongers is also presented alongside this exhibition.

LEONIE FERNHOUT explores what it means to be human and follows the interplay between our inner and outer worlds. Her work revolves around vulnerability, our physical connection to nature and the silent strength that arises when we face our own stories. Beginning with photography and drawing, her practice has developed through ceramics to the sculptural domain. The slow, responsive nature of clay invites stillness and attention, reflecting her ongoing exploration of connection; between body and mind, man and nature, form and feeling.

THOMAS MEIJERMAN investigates the changing role of humans within landscape ecosystems. His work draws on geological and evolutionary processes, transforming observation and intervention into a dialogue with nature. Through fieldwork, installations and material experiments, he investigates how natural forces – erosion, compression, crystallization – reflect human gestures of control and letting go. Each project becomes a living exchange between artist and environment, where change itself is the medium.
