In 2013, Falke Pisano wrote a short text, Without Weight, a plan for an animation film. It is very different from her regular work, apart from the fact that it is an animated character that emerges from her regular work and reflects on it: “an animated character who takes different forms and ways of speaking, stumbling, problematic and confused through the space of my work moves. The idea and the figure actually represent a continuous desire to break through a certain pattern of my practice.” Pisano always develops her performative work systematically: through intuition, differentiation, substantive questioning, elaboration. With a wandering and unstable animation figure, an expression that does not fit in that systematic thinking, she would like to break through that approach. To do this, she wanted to close-read her own work, delve into literature on destabilizing practices, and eventually make an animation film.

Pisano incorporates long-term studies through literature, history and theory in multimedia installations. She examines how art can play a role in questioning the institutions and structures that shape our socio-political and narrative spaces. She was awarded the Prix de Rome in 2013, the year she wrote Without Weight and then put it down. The R&D committee understood the need to deviate from a rigid working method and advised positively.

But then came 2020, a strange year, with a pandemic and the fight against racism. This reinforced Pisano's need for a critical view, in relation to institutional work and collaborations. “The perspective of disarticulation that was the starting point for Without Weight has become more than I expected a lens and a concrete affective relationship.” Instead of reflecting slowly and implicitly on her work, she reacted with activities, conversations and research, and wrote texts about systems, structures and ideologies. She processes this in the script for the animation that she wants to make in the winter of 2020-21.
