'WALK – A Meditative Decolonial Project' by Alireza Abbasy consists of a series of walking meditations about the pain and suffering resulting from discrimination and racial oppression. Although the artist aims for an anti-colonial critique with this project, he deliberately chooses not to use existing theoretical works or even 'the intellect'. He finds it more important to be directly involved and present in the present moment, without the intervention of anything or anyone else. The project arose from Abbasy's own sense of alienation and discrimination, and his need to develop an art practice that could help him and others heal. For each WALK, the artist creates a publication in which he discusses the significance of the respective locations. It also serves as a 'walking guide' with more information about the background and meaning of walking meditation, its relationship with breathing and the body, and the intergenerational healing power that he believes emanates from it.
