Gyz La Rivière was born in 1976, the same year as the VHS. In 2021 he published 'Home Video, videotheken & video in Groot-Rotterdam', which takes a special look at this often underexposed heritage. La Rivière sees this book as a preliminary study for his latest film project 'Videotheek Marco', about the last video store owners in the Benelux and the rich history of (family) video stores. Rotterdam plays a major role in this. The film is an ode to the video store in the streetscape, with which the artist wants to bring together people and communities who would otherwise not find each other so quickly. At an earlier stage, La Rivière has already worked on the (preliminary) research, the scenario, archive material and the pre-editing. In the coming period he will focus on the execution and realization of the film, after which he will offer the film to various film festivals.
