Bert Frings has been working on relatively small formats for years. In the coming period, he wants to investigate what format and also the repetition of subjects can mean for his art practice. He hopes to find answers to this question by using linocuts to print large sheets of paper in a process-oriented manner. This process is less labor-intensive than painting and gives him the opportunity to switch and decide more quickly, and to make manual adjustments where necessary. He also wants to experiment with the layout of his still lifes and place the objects more freely on the paper, or perhaps partially or completely blow them up. What is actually the ultimate format with which he can and wants to work? Can the works on paper stand on their own, or will they only become sketches for future paintings?
