From February 9 to March 9, 2023, The land of the Tattooed; Ungodly Beasts occurred. The exhibition was the result of Lê's residency at Hotel
Maria Kapel and also her first solo exhibition. The exhibition presents the first chapter of Lê's project “the land of the tattooed”, a semi-fictional state
in which mythologies, folklore and histories of tattoo traditions are recounted. This chapter was about the demonization of tattoo traditions under Catholicism and became
told through a semi-fictional alphabet on 14 textile canvases. Performances and tattoo rituals took place within the installations. She also built an altar for the tattooed Inuk woman who was enslaved in the sixteenth century and exhibited in The Hague, which is what the title Ungodly Beasts refers to.
