With "Suckling," Lou Lou Sainsbury responds to the current political landscape that scapegoats transgender people through social exclusion, legislation, and violence. The project, comprised of a 16mm film, a video installation, and eco-horror fiction, centers on a group of transgender friends from Rotterdam who run a laboratory that produces genetically modified estrogen mixed with DNA from plant fossils. The film follows their daily lives as they lose access to raw materials due to fascist legislation and government intervention, while the virus they carry unexpectedly begins to mutate. "Suckling" is presented in solo exhibitions at the Ehrlich Steinberg gallery in Los Angeles and Manifold Books in Amsterdam.
