With 'Something Out Of Nothing', Veronika Babayan pays homage to family recipes for preserving food, focusing on the traditions within migrant communities in Rotterdam. With this project, the artist wants to show that the concept of 'sustainable food' can be traced back to age-old, intercultural preservation techniques that arose from the need to survive. 'Something Out Of Nothing' is therefore also an investigation into stories about nostalgia, family, hunger, war, displacement and the concept of 'home'. In collaboration with the Rotterdam art community Brooderhood, Babayan is developing a series of cooking workshops that focus on intercultural and intergenerational preservation methods. In the course of the project, she is also developing a video series with documentation of the workshops and personal interviews.
