Thanks in part to a Practical Grant, Michiel van Bakel was able to give his video work 'Panorama Chemours – River Reflections' an optimal premiere during IFFR 2026. His experimental photo film takes the viewer on a meditative journey through the waters of the Merwede River, past the industrial banks. Despite the colorful vista at the Chemours factory, its recent history is rather dark and tainted by PFAS 'forever chemicals'. The viewer is immersed in a kaleidoscopic yet serene landscape with eerie underwater sounds. Van Bakel: 'The premiere day led to lively conversations with both co-directors and the audience during and after the Q&A sessions. The sound editing and color corrections that I had created specifically for the cinema—partly thanks to the Practical Grant—turned out very positively.'
