Jack Segbars' project 'Norms and Politics in Artistic Practice, the Art Infrastructure' is an investigation into the stumbling blocks faced by art initiatives when establishing and running their organizations. In recent years, the Dutch cultural sector, particularly small-scale art organizations working closely with the artist community, has been increasingly disrupted by uncertain funding, rising costs of living, gentrification, and political opposition. Together with artist Falke Pisano, Segbars aims to map and analyze their needs and ambitions, and the problems encountered in realizing these ambitions. Their approach consists of interviewing stakeholders from the art world as well as external parties such as administrators and politicians, and organizing lectures and events. Because both artists view this research as part of their practice, they consciously choose to work from the perspective of artists and organizers within the art community.
