With the project 'Nap Navel', Ying Liu looked for ways to achieve collective peace, healing and silence. Inspired by traditional Chinese medicine, singing bowl therapy and the Zen tradition, she organised two programmes focused on retreat and meditation. Beforehand, Liu made seating objects herself, which she calls Nap Navels, consisting of handmade blankets, soft cushions and Chinese cotton mattresses, meditation mats and seat cushions. In collaboration with the art space VierVaart in Groede, Liu led a short retreat in which the participants made their own seat cushions and followed a joint meditation. At Limestone Books in Maastricht, she transformed the store together with Alireza Abbasy into a 'space for contemplation of nothingness', with the Nap Navels as a decor. Here, together with Suzanne Weenink, she also gave the four-hour retreat 'Nothingness Awareness', in which participants were invited to use the soft cushions during their meditation.
