In recent years, choreographer and artist Marta Wörner Sarabia has primarily created work that stems from everyday actions and movements. In doing so, she attempts to integrate art into life, to infuse the freedom she experiences as an artist into daily existence. Her new project, Movimientos desgarbados, is an extension of this endeavor. The title refers to the Spanish dictator Franco, with which he described clumsy or awkward-looking gestures that he saw as moral and political failures, especially in women's bodies. Wörner Sarabia considers her body a living archive of such rules, shaped by her grandmother's upbringing, who was trained as a kindergarten teacher under the dictatorship to transmit fascist values to younger generations. Wörner Sarabia wonders if our bodies still move according to similar inherited rules, now reshaped by the contemporary demands of constant productivity. The results of her archival research in Spain, field research in Rotterdam and studio experiments are presented in the form of a choreography, a catalogue, a short documentary and a publication.
