For some time now, Goeun Bae has been fascinated by the way the invisible environment affects our bodies. She has noticed how subtle vibrations in an urban space can cause physical and psychological discomfort. For the new project 'Mobile Study_For Instability', the artist will conduct three forms of experiments using mobiles. Through extensive material research, she builds mobiles from fragile or unstable materials – such as glass, mirrors, jelly and dry ice – that reflect physical tension and the transient nature of equilibrium. By experimenting with instability, she then deliberately disrupts these mobiles by changing or removing parts to observe how instability unfolds. Finally, site-specific experiments follow, in which Bae installs the mobiles in different locations. How do spatial and environmental factors influence balance, movement and meaning?
