Simon Schrikker's work has one binding factor: seeking out the boundary between figuration and material. He is always looking for new ways to create a powerful image with even fewer resources, which is based on emotions and instincts such as fear and power. In 2021 Schrikker started to explore his possibilities in the field of spatial work, with the first result being a few bronze statues. In the coming period, he wants to develop through material research and experiments on a large scale, as an installation and/or suitable for outdoor use. “The increase in size appeals to me, it's all new to me, as I'm an autodidact in sculpting. Where painting is a defined area, I am faced with dilemmas here.” The advisory committee finds Schrikker's need for experimentation and research into volume, proportion, limits and transience well suited to the phase in which his practice is now.
