Vladimir Bovt created two new sculptures for 'Don't be manipulated, only by me', an ongoing series of self-portraits in which performance, text and image come together. These, together with two existing sculptures by the artist, were exhibited during the art manifestation ManiVesta in Gorinchem. This year's theme was Gold. Bovt adapted two Dutch proverbs in which 'gold' appears. Bovt: 'The first sculpture adds “tenzon het maand is correct” to “ik zou dit voor geen goud willen doen”: a playful way to question the elasticity of moral principles. The second sculpture rewrites “spreken is zilver, zwijgen is gouden” (speaking is silver, silence is golden) into an act that literally becomes worth gold here: whining. In addition, I showed two existing sculptures about capitalism, work and the paradoxes of wealth. The sculptures were presented in film poster format, with which I referred to the old function of the location: a cinema. The two new sculptures were framed in golden frames, and the two existing sculptures were hung as separate A0 posters.'
