Household horror is an artistic investigation into the smart doorbell. According to Roos Groothuizen, this popular phenomenon is exposed too negatively in journalism, science and art. With the artistic experiment Household Horror, the artist wants to give an impetus to surveillance-themed art with a focus on location, accountability and horror games. For 'location' she uses her studio as a 'test animal' in which she explores the front door and the interior as locations with the smart doorbell as a new online side function. For 'accountability', she investigates how you can build online camera systems in a responsible manner. For 'horror games', she uses horror games to explore how the interaction between distrust and trust runs parallel to the cultural impact of the smart doorbell. These elements come together in an online (game) experience in which the smart doorbell and the art space (.zip) play a role within a narrative of distrust and trust. According to the advisory committee, this application is a playful, imaginative mixture of topics with a convincing link to current events.
