The exhibition Grondsteen, curated by Thomas Meijerman, was on view at Pictura in Dordrecht from mid-January to mid-February. Six artists explore how raw materials and archaeological objects are carriers of untold stories. Willem Besselink showed various sculptures, including his new work BetongBlokk – a concrete scale model of an industrial ruin he encountered on the slope of an old iron mine in northern Norway. The sculpture raises the same questions Besselink had back then: What is this? When was it made? By whom? For what? Not only the concrete block, but also the wooden mold in which it was cast formed part of the exhibition.
