With Frozen Still, Ewan Macbeth brings together themes such as greed and capitalism with the trauma resulting from the climate crisis. It is a collaboration with the Rotterdam film production company SeriousFilm, where Macbeth will use the R&D contribution for in-depth research, screenwriting, test shooting, storyboarding and making a trailer. The result eventually takes shape in a film about corporate power in this time of global warming, told from the perspective of a boy whose mother works for an oil company. The artist focuses on two pressing issues in the work. Does the behavior and lies of the fossil fuel industry equate to abuse and gaslighting? And will future generations still have a future despite the greed and unpredictable power of this corporate capitalism? The combination of complex themes and the personal starting point makes the advisory committee curious about its research. Although the step-by-step plan is clearly described, Macbeth has left enough room for experimentation.
