For the project 'Fibers of the Feminine' Amber Grothe created three innovative works. With this project the artist questions the current relationship to textile crafts and the value of textile crafts within society. Within Grothe's family women have always worked with textiles; professionally, but also at home, for the family and the house. She learned to crochet, knit, sew and embroider from her grandmother. Grothe: 'This knowledge often seems undervalued by our fast-paced society. With the new works I want to convey the knowledge, highlight the value of (generational) crafts and tell a story about feminism, women, textiles.' Thanks to the Practical Contribution Grothe has been able to experiment freely and delve into the processing of textiles by means of tufting, crocheting and sewing. Her new works form a starting point for more work within the new direction she has taken. Grothe will show her work at Art Week Rotterdam in March 2025.
