Nicky Assmann focuses in her art practice on the immaterial and elusive nature of light, color and movement. With a background in film and ArtScience, she creates spatial and visual music compositions that sharpen the perception of the audience. The Expanded Color Fields research is a new angle with which she wants to take the next step in her work. While her current work mainly brings the viewer into contact with objects, light sources and screens that are installed with mathematical precision in existing spaces, Assmann now wants to focus on designing and developing the spaces themselves. Is it possible to create a space of pure light around the viewer? Material, light and color research will play a central role in this research. Assmann plans to develop some experimental prototypes that result from practical experiments in her own studio and working visits to, among others, Derix Glasstudios in Taunusstein, National Glass Museum Leerdam and GlasLab Den Bosch. According to the advisory committee, this proposal is a good example of scientific research that is visualized and linked by the artist in terms of artistic content.
