Jahi Quasim Reeberg has primarily worked with still images: paintings and digital drawings that focus on queer and trans Black people. With the project "Every Moment I Live Out Loud Is Praise," the artist aims to expand this practice with sound and moving images, paying tribute to sources of inspiration such as musicians like Sun Ra, Gil Scott-Heron, author Toni Morrison, and filmmaker Ousmane Sembène. Spiritual practices from the African diaspora also inform this work, such as Ghanaian Adinkra symbolism and the knowledge of his Surinamese and Cape Verdean ancestors. Reeberg is working on an experimental video poem about the relationship between music, visual art, and spirituality, creating a parallel world in which these ancestors and their history resonate. For the script, score, and roles, the artist is collaborating with composers, art directors, and other experts. The final outcome of the project will be determined by the course of the research.
