Myrte van der Molen's project plan focuses on a reverse movement: being able to return to the behavior she had before she went through a social skills course for years as a child. “I want to unlearn my socially desirable behaviour. I want to confront myself and my environment through assignments and experiments.” To investigate whether this is possible, she wants to develop an anti-course, complete with course space, homework, assignments and fellow students. She can discuss social situations and role-play with them, just like on the course from her childhood. She carries out other assignments herself, with friends, on the street, in the supermarket. She translates the reflection on this course into drawings, poems or performances, a form that she determines later in order to make the research shareable.

Social rules of conduct and social freedom are a theme in Van der Molen's artistry, or more generally what it is like to be human among others. She graduated from the St.Joost Academy in 2015 with the film 'Uit mijnhoofd', about socially desirable behavior on the street. She then studied philosophy and made the one-minute video I want to be selfish again, a prelude to this R&D research. The R&D committee read the plan as a good momentum for in-depth exploration of this young autobiographical professional practice.

Van der Molen decided to shape the substantive deepening and self-reflection in a course format, which she recorded in images, text and film. It provided insights that it is not so much about socially desirable or undesirable behaviour, but mainly about switching between them. Unlike in the plan, she shifted the emphasis from the external to the internal process, to reflecting on situations. She did this in her studio where she made a digital animation with a controllable avatar. She learned about the necessary techniques and eventually delivered the video Talking without words, which premiered on January 25, 2019 at Little Red Riding Hood.
