What does dance mean to us? During Weekland, Hans Schuttenbeld and Marta Wörner were looking for answers to that question during a collective research into dance in the Agniesebuurt in Rotterdam-Noord. They approached dance as a way for residents to meet each other. In the first phase of the project, Wörner supervised several workshops for local residents, during which a glossary was created with personal definitions of what it means to 'dance'. The artists then organised the outcomes of the workshops on 22 June 2024 with 'Dance for Us', a dancing walk through the Agniesebuurt with performances, music and lectures. The dance definitions from the workshops were also discussed: a calligrapher 'wrote' a selection of the definitions on the street with a high-pressure cleaner, resulting in an ephemeral, multilingual artwork in public space.
