The video work 'Cosmos Politics' by Geo Barcan focuses on the complex history and future of Unst. This island, part of the Shetland Islands, was an important place for shipping for centuries due to its favourable location. In recent years, a rocket launch base has been built on this site, which is affecting the landscape and therefore also the ecosystem. With this experimental project, Barcan reflects on the history of Unst in relation to this gigantic structure by entering into fictional conversations with previous generations, but also by meeting the current inhabitants of the island. By means of various storylines, the artist involves not only the living beings on and around the island, but also the cosmos in this project. In doing so, the philosophical question unfolds: who are the aliens of this universe?
