At the invitation of the Rotterdam artist initiative De Ijskast, Lilian Ptacek participated in Juxtapose, a non-commercial art fair in Aarhus, Denmark, from June 13th to 15th, 2025. For this event, Ptacek developed a new series of sculptures titled "Akward Desire Lines." Ptacek: "My contribution focused on reinterpreting functional urban objects using unexpected materials, such as a paper pulp drinking fountain and wax manhole covers. These sculptures were inspired by observations of overlooked urban elements in Rotterdam's city center. I investigated how subtle systems of flow, control, and regulation manifest in everyday infrastructure. After an extensive period of material research, I developed processes to deform and transform familiar forms—creating works that initially appeared stable and functional, but upon closer inspection revealed their fragility and impracticality." These sculptures thus encourage reflection on the visible and invisible ways in which urban planning influences the way people inhabit cities.'
