The film installation "Traces of Ten Villages" (1985-2025) was part of the group exhibition "Beloved Waters," on view at Stroom Den Haag from May 23 to August 17, 2025. "Traces of Ten Villages" consists of ten short films shown on ten screens, combining satellite imagery, film footage, archival material, and sound design. The film installation traces ten sites once built by the indigenous Ahwari people, selected from fifty locations in the wetlands of southern Iraq identified using satellite imagery. As the villages emerge, submerge, or disappear under the changing forces of local, regional, and colonial powers, suppressed histories are made legible. Solati: "With this installation, I question the abstractions, inconsistencies, ruptures, and erasures embedded in the spatial and archival traces I encountered during my research, offering an alternative, non-linear reading of the research and the history of the wetlands." This project has provided me with new skills and experience that will help me develop and expand my practice, and further develop this specific research and work on wetlands. It has also helped me build a stronger network, both in the Netherlands and internationally. The exhibition has presented me with new opportunities, such as an invitation to participate in a symposium in the Netherlands and another in Bergen, Norway.
