From the beginning of 2026, the Claes de Vrieselaan in Rotterdam-West will be redesigned. The municipality and residents want to enrich the renovated street with one or more works of art. An art committee has been set up for this purpose, consisting of residents of the street. Artists with a good idea can apply for this assignment. The committee would like to receive a short introduction and/or motivation and a link to previous work.

We ask at this stage did not for proposals. After the inventory of interested artists, the art committee will commission a maximum of two artists to make a sketch design at €2.500,00 excluding VAT.

Claes de Vrieselaan
The Claes de Vrieselaan, built in 1894, connects the Rochussenstraat and the Middellandplein. The residents form a cross-section of the Middelland district. The redevelopment creates a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly street where the speed limit is 30 km/h. On the municipal website more can be read about the past and future of the street.

Artist profile
The artist has a connection with Rotterdam (living, working and/or born). The artist has experience with art in public spaces and/or museums, but preferably has not yet placed a work of art in the public space of Rotterdam. The work of art reflects the spirit of the location (genius loci), is distinctive (surprising for residents and passers-by), has experiential value for a broad target group and is sustainable (remains intact for at least ten years).
