FAQ Practical contribution

The Practical Contribution provides for (part of) artists' fees for art projects that have a public character and through which artists strengthen their professional practice. With the Practical Contribution, Art Office contributes to the remuneration of visual artists resulting from our commitment to the Fair Practice Code.

A maximum of one application per calendar year per person will be granted. There is no limit to the number of applications you can submit per year in case of a rejected application. You may only submit a new application for the same project on the condition that the application contains relevant and significant new information.

It is not possible to submit an Artistic Practice (Praktijkbijdrage) application if you have a Grant for I&V application pending, and vice versa. I&V application running and vice versa.

Applying for a Practical Contribution is in principle intended for the individual visual arts practice. If you want to work on a project as an artist duo, you can submit an application together. Both applications must be submitted personally. Indicate in your application what each person's share in the project is. You can submit the application for each person's individual fee.

The artist page on artoffice.info plays an important role in the assessment of your application. It must be up-to-date, as the committee will review it to gain a good insight into your current practice as a visual artist. Please note: add a profile photo, otherwise you will not be found.

The application can be submitted in Dutch or English. If you are Dutch speaking, please submit in Dutch. Please note that applications are sometimes translated from English to Dutch for assessment, which may change the meaning and nuance of the texts.

Co-funding is not required.

No, a Practice Contribution is a subsidy. If you receive such a subsidy as a VAT-liable artist, no VAT is normally applicable. This is because the visual artist does not provide a service to the subsidy provider and does not sell any goods. Therefore, subsidies such as a Practice Contribution are generally not subject to VAT. However, the subsidy is considered part of the turnover from work as a visual artist and must be reported as income to the Tax Authorities.

Begin by formulating your question and finding your own voice to articulate it. Try to avoid formal and wooly language as much as possible. Ask friends or colleagues to read your texts and give you feedback.

The images you submit are intended to support your application. So make sure you have a visual component of your application that provides insight into the visual direction you are thinking of: this can be a reference image, but also sketches. Tip: you can also add a PDF with a compilation of images. This way you can show the committee more images.

The images you post on your artist profile on artoffice.info provide insight into your current position as a visual artist.

Applications can be submitted continuously with the exception of a summer period to be announced later. The scheme will run as long as the budget lasts.

CBK Rotterdam will process the applications as quickly as possible in order of receipt. Depending on the number of applications received at the same time, the processing will take longer or shorter. We aim to process all applications within 4 weeks after the application date. If it takes longer, the applications will be notified.
