In short, the program offers compensation for time. The program is intended to strengthen your artistic professional practice by temporarily guaranteeing an income, so that you have time to develop an artistic question or project for a predetermined period. There are two application rounds per year. You can submit an application for each round, provided you are not using another CBK Rotterdam scheme. If you have submitted an application that is not successful, you must wait one round before you can submit a new application. You can only submit a new application after an awarded project has been completed.

No. All CBK applications can only be submitted on the delivery of previously awarded proposals, or if an application has been rejected.

Applying for an I&V is primarily intended for individual visual art practice. If you are working as an artist duo you can apply for a joint research project, but you must submit individual applications. In your application, indicate what you will each contribute to the project. You can jointly apply for a total contribution of up to €7.500.

Artists following a master’s program at an art academy (HBO) and/or university (WO), such as the Sandberg Institute, Piet Zwart Institute, Minerva, HKU, ArtEZ or Arts and Culture at Leiden University are not eligible to apply. Artists participating in artist workshops such as the Rijksacademie, De Ateliers, Jan van Eyck or, for example, Sundaymorning@EKWC, the TextielMuseum, Knust, and Make Eindhoven can apply with a specific proposal for a project that meets the criteria of this scheme.

Your artist page on artoffice.info plays an important role in the evaluation of your application. It must be current, as the committee views it to get a good understanding of your current practice as a visual artist.

You can include assistance in your budget as “production costs”, provided that the support is carried out from an artistic perspective. The proposed method or technique explored with the support involved should add depth to your professional practice and artistic development.

No, the grant is intended for a working period in which the process is central, and not a final product.

The application should be submitted in Dutch. If this is not possible, then English is permissible. Please be aware that translation applications are used for assessment, which can significantly change the meaning and nuance of texts.

Co-funding is not required.

No, an I&V award is a subsidy. When a btw-registered artist receives a contribution or other subsidy, they are usually not charged btw. This is because visual artists do not provide a service, or sell goods, to the subsidy provider. As no direct services are provided, a subsidy such as an I&V award, is not subject to btw. An I&V contribution is considered as the ‘work turnover as a visual artist', in which sense it can be reported to the Belastingdienst as income.

Begin by formulating your question and finding your own voice to articulate it. Try to avoid formal and wooly language as much as possible. Ask friends or colleagues to read your texts and give you feedback.

Have all text for your application ready in a Word document, and then copy them into the online application form. This way you always have your own backup. Before the application has been sent, CBK Rotterdam does not store any of the information entered on the form.

Yes, this is possible. Please note, however, that the objection committee only investigates whether procedural errors were made during the handling of the application and does not judge the substantive advice of the committee. See the regulations for more information.
