Come to the sequel on Thursday October 2nd Duotones: A Series of Artists Talking, a program of artist talks by A Tale of A Tub, Studio Art Office, and TENT Rotterdam. The series is an attempt to connect different generations of Rotterdam artists. For this third edition, we're visiting A Tale of A Tub and have Rana Hamadeh en gabi dao invited. Both transform research into immersive artworks full of sound, image, and performance, reimagining history through counter-archives and non-linear narratives. The conversation between the artists will be moderated by Arsalan Ishaqzai.
Over the next few months, two artists from different generations will be paired each month, informally presenting their work while a third artist/creator moderates a conversation. Typically, we'll get to know each other's work as a final product, presented to the public as a thoroughly considered result. Therefore, in addition to connecting the diverse communities of the Rotterdam art scene, such as long-standing residents and newcomers recently settled in the city, the goal is also to participate in the work process during its development, for example, by holding preliminary public conversations.
Drinks and snacks will be provided and the hope is that the series will become a social meeting place for many of us.

Rana Hamadeh (1983. Beirut, Lebanon) is a visual, sound and performance artist from Lebanon, living in Rotterdam. Her artistic practice is at the intersection of theatre, music, film and exhibitions. This practice unfolds through large-scale sonic architectures and systems designs, audiovisual installations and pedagogical frameworks. Working with curatorial methodologies, she develops long-term projects that explore the infrastructures, eto explore pistemologies and technologies of justice and stage them as experimental systems of meaning-making and collective thinking. Since 2016, she has been working on what she calls a “machine-oriented opera practice,” exploring writing and composing and testing ideas around 'machine emancipation'.

gabi dao (born 1991, Vancouver) is an artist and filmmaker based in Maastricht. dao comes from the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh Nations (Vancouver, Canada). dao’s practice spans experimental film, sculpture, collage, and collaboration. With an emphasis on multiple truths and sensory affirmations, dao seeks to reclaim and re-enchant meaning from the ruins of capitalism and colonialism. Their work has been shown at the E-flux Screening Room (Brooklyn, USA), the Southern Alberta Art Gallery Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin (Lethbridge, CA), A Tale-of-a-Tub (Rotterdam, NL), the Vincom Centre for Contemporary Art (Hà Nội, VN), and at the 39th Ljubljana Biennale: The Oracle (Ljubljana, SL).
