Join us at TENT this Thursday 5th of June for the continuation of 'Duotones: A Series of Artists Talking' - a new programme of artist talks organised by A Tale of A Tub and Studio Art Office/CBK R'dam and hosted by TENT. The series is an attempt to bring different generations of Rotterdam artists into conversation with each other, and for the second edition we've invited Daniel Tuomey and Eveline Visser to draw on their shared connection to the role of narrative and the staging of stories in their work, often done through painting, architecture and text.
In the coming months (with the exception of the summer holidays), two artists from different generations will be paired together, (casually) presenting their work before a third artist acts as moderator for a conversation. Most of the time, we get to know each other’s work as a final product, presented to the public in the form of a thoroughly thought-out outcome. Therefore, in addition to connecting the different communities of the Rotterdam art scene – such as long-time residents and newcomers who have recently settled in the city – the intention is also to participate in the work process during its development, for example by holding preliminary conversations in public.
Drinks and snacks will be provided and the hope is that the series will become a social meeting place for many of us.
Daniel Tuomey (1989) was born in Dublin and currently lives and works in Rotterdam. His long-term research projects explore uncanny embodiments and uneasy narratives, referencing critiques of identity and home. Recent solo exhibitions include Ormston House, Limerick (2025), VIDEO, Rotterdam (2024) and Pallas Projects / Studios, Dublin (2023). Tuomey received his MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam (2017). His work has been supported by the Mondriaan Fund, The Arts Council of Ireland and CBK Rotterdam.
Eveline Visser (1949) lives and works in the M4H District in Rotterdam. Her work consists of objects, dioramas, panoramas, display cases and painted interior pieces in which the public can walk or have an interactive experience. She studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Her work has been shown at Cokkie Snoei, the Chabot Museum and the Overloon War Museum.
Daniel van der Giessen (1998) (they/them) is a researcher, host, writer and performer based in Rotterdam. Their practice focuses on artistic collaboration, facilitation and proximity. Daniël uses conversation, negotiation and recitation to explore sites of art production and distribution. They are currently researching the relationship between the infrastructure and attitudes of contemporary art, and neoliberal-fascist dynamics.
