My practice lies in the tradition of wood carving. My work is about life – a response, an exploration, an inquiry; It often explores the interconnectedness between humans and animals, as seen especially in densely populated and water-rich Dutch cities. In a world becoming more aware of relationships with resources and the disconnect many feel from their environment – my use of local and reclaimed material that can regrow, highlights and celebrates an awareness of this. Through my hand-carving process, I offer a contrast to a fast-paced world – reconnecting to basic human needs such as presence, communication and an appreciation and learning from heritage and history.

Listening Ears is a new sculptural series by Teresa Hunyadi and Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk.
It consists of ceramic, ear-like forms that are slightly anthropomorphic and are often presented in pairs. The sculptures take their place as an attentive, almost vigilant presence in the space. Playful in character, yet at the same time alert and sensitive to their surroundings. The work starts from a poetic question: does the world dream? And if so, of what?
