My practice lies in the tradition of wood carving. My work is about life – a response, an exploration, an inquiry; It often explores the interconnectedness between humans and animals, as seen especially in densely populated and water-rich Dutch cities. In a world becoming more aware of relationships with resources and the disconnect many feel from their environment – my use of local and reclaimed material that can regrow, highlights and celebrates an awareness of this. Through my hand-carving process, I offer a contrast to a fast-paced world – reconnecting to basic human needs such as presence, communication and an appreciation and learning from heritage and history.
