In my audiovisual work I investigate frameworks in society by often using my personal environment and history as a mirror. As the child of a father who is a refugee in his own country - Cyprus, identity issues continue to arise that touch on more themes in a broader context. Within these issues I look for stories that reflect the sincerity of man and at the same time expose the absurdities of society.

(R)oma: A (family) history, 2021 - An older Yugoslavian woman from the Roma community must find a place in Dutch society. But each time the misunderstanding proves to be too great. Yet she continues to search for a better life with her children and grandchildren. A film that was created on the initiative of Klaas Burger, Academy for Image Formation and the Hopic family. The basis for the story is a series of interviews in which grandma shares her story and is expanded in 4 different film styles by different makers. I have been working on this project with Klaas Burger since 2016, initially by filming grandma's interview and then developing the scenario into the various parts. https://www.academievoordeelvorm.nl/roma/opening-expo-en-filmpremiere-roma/
80 percent, 2015 - A short film about a Cypriot father visiting his two sons in Belgium. While preparing traditional food and dining, they share thoughts and feelings about their homeland. The sons try to understand where they belong.
Dinner 2015 - A short film about a woman and a man flirting with each other at the end of dinner.

Together with Klaas Burger and the Academy for Imaging, we are working on a cinematic installation about the life of an elderly Yugoslav woman from the Roma community. The basis of the story is an interview we recorded with her. Will her family be able to become part of Dutch society after living here for 50 years? How do the frames in media and policy affect the way in which the family directs its own identity? (see link)
