In connection with the spirit of the times and society, I, as a contemporary artist, feel the responsibility to continue to look critically at our society and the world in which we live.
Society, in all its various facets, is a great source of inspiration for me. From that perspective, my work can be seen as a reflection on moral issues unfolding within our society. Thus, themes such as loneliness, jealousy, freedom, vulnerability, betrayal, addiction, anger, pride, loss, and love are explored. Sincerity and authenticity are essential values to me. They ensure that I look critically not only at what is happening in the world, but also at myself and my own view of that world.
To add an extra dimension to sometimes confronting subjects, I regularly use humor. Humor can help make heavy themes more accessible and simultaneously provides perspective. Nevertheless, I find it important that the viewer remains free to interpret my work in different ways. There is no predetermined truth.
A former teacher once described my work as visual poetry. Although there are many narrative elements present in my work, they never reveal the full story. What becomes visible is, as it were, the in-between moments: something substantial seems to have happened, or is just about to happen. Through metaphors, personal symbolism, and philosophical questions (often in the titles), I invite the viewer to dig deeper within themselves. I offer a window within which self-reflection becomes possible, in which the recognition of a moment, feeling, or thought takes center stage.
