Ronald Cornelissen

to draw , installation

My work consists of drawings and installations or sculptures, although it should be noted that the emphasis in recent years has increasingly been on drawing. By means of elements borrowed from both high and low culture, I give shape to themes such as our increasingly complex relationship with nature, and related issues such as the conflict between rationalism and mysticism and in particular the social and political implications thereof. The work is not so much characterized by an observational or reflexive character but is rather affective or libidinal in nature.

HÖLL
HÖLL - This publication contains a series of drawings that I made after a stay at the Netherlands Arctic Station of the University of Groningen on Spitsbergen. The scenes depicted in the first edition of Gerrit de Veer's famous travelogue Waerachtighe beschryvinghe van drie seylagien, ter wereldt noyt soo vreemt ghehoort from 1598 served as a starting point for this series of drawings. The drawings mix the work of Gerrit de Veer with that of Elzie Segar, John Carpenter, Michel Serres, Vladimir Demikhov and Mary Shelley. The book is designed by Simon Davies.
