I make documentary narrative as well as visually autonomous work, I love both, the one and the other also feed the other. Engagement is simply about feeling involved, and with the medium of moving images this can coexist excellently.

Socials Stories @insta Tent Rotterdam 11 Dec '25 to 01 Jan 2026 — **Socials Stories @insta Tent Rotterdam 11 dec '25 t/m 01 jan '26** Van der Lippe has been photographing sunsets at sea for years. During her time as a caregiver for her mother, the images became a symbol of loss. Her work aligns with Dorothee Sölle's idea that wonder makes you aware of what she calls "being broken." Starting tomorrow, she will be taking over the exhibition Sun, Don't Rush to be Red. Son, Don't Rush to be Read. Every day at sunset, she will present a work accompanied by texts written in response to her work by visitors to St. Paul's Church. What feels real to you, and what feels like injustice?

Art and Complex — **Kunst en Complex** Marieke van der Lippe was commissioned to make a film to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the studio building. At the same time, its sale was imminent. Artists in the studio building "Kunst en Complex" on Keileweg are concerned about their future. The municipal property, where some artists have had studios since the 80s, was sold through a public tender to "De Mannen van Schuim." The plans for this project developer's winning bid include ample space for the artists and a hotel. But three years later, little seems to remain of the original plans, and the artists fear higher rents or even permanent departure. Van der Lippe is making a documentary that addresses this sensitive issue.

THE SEA, participatory theatre in De Banier — **DE ZEE, participatief theater in De Banier** - Based on personal associations of older and younger participants with the work of Marieke van der Lippe, text, dance, and music were developed. Under the direction of Marielle van der Griendt, these resulted in a wonderfully moving performance in which Van der Lippe's video images form the starting point.

Day and Night of Architecture; video work in 'The Modernist' June 2024 — **Dag en Nacht van de Architectuur; videowerk in 'The Modernist' juni 2024** Commissioned by AIR - Architecture Institute Rotterdam and OMI, I created the video installation Red Orange Yellow Blues in the basement of 'The Modernist' during the Day & Night of Architecture. The building was a listed building and was demolished shortly thereafter.

The New Machine 2025 — **The New Machine** - The Next Machine; an atypical sequel to the film The Machine based on the radio play by George Perec. In The Next Machine we investigate how this revolutionary radio play from 1967, being a talking computer that analyses the essence of a poem by Goethe, can be given a contemporary translation in textual auditory and visual co-creation with contemporary Artificial Intelligence. In The Next Machine, based on the radio play, we investigate how GPT4 can be implemented visually and narratively, also using e.g. DallE and Whisper. The research takes as its starting point the question whether a 'contemporary update' of Perec's work is possible by (just as Perec did in his radio play) replaying with the latest technology.

**WHODUNNIT** - The exhibition WHODUNNIT in Het Archief took place from 4 to 23 January 2024, during which I realized a monumental 'immersive' video installation on the first floor (308 m2). WHODUNNIT is a group exhibition that, like a puzzle, forms an underlying motif without immediately revealing it, with a timeline that goes both forward and backward, is both reconstruction and research, as if it were a fictional logic in which the story is known but still is unprecedented. The aspect of the timeline fascinated me. I made a montage from film recordings made over five years during sunsets by the sea, based on a standstill in time. By stacking layers on top of each other during the montage, I condensed time. This condensation creates abstraction, the sunsets become minimally moving areas of color. The montage was in a cinemascope widescreen format, which was projected as a whole in space using two synchronized projectors. By consistently keeping the horizon at the same height, the intended spatial effect was created. The space itself became video sculpture. The experience of spatial abstraction and standing still in movement was enhanced by Radboud Mens' soundscape entitled 'Four Harmonic Feeds', in which frequency layers slide over each other, which, as Mens himself describes, 'provides a horizontal sound image and movement.

**Publicatie Red Yellow Orange Blues** - Marieke van der Lippe has been photographing sunsets by the sea for years. During a period when she became an informal caregiver for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, the images of the sunset became a symbol of mourning and the process of coping. The emotion evoked by the images seemed to contradict the pain, but turned out to be inextricably linked to it. Based on the images and thoughts, stories and poems were created from conversations with visitors to the Pauluskerk and in collaboration with Ishmail Kamara and Anne Vegter. The work was presented during Poetry International Rotterdam. This collection is a special edition of the texts and images. Use it as it suits your lifestyle and let yourself be touched and inspired.

**If Paradise Is Half As Nice** - If Paradise Is Half As Nice, IPIHAN 10, is a cradle to cradle artistic practice. It is a story of creation, where from scratch, a forgotten neglected maligned rough barren place, forms the inspiration from which art emerges. It shows the beauty and value of rejected places. It is a tribute to simple living, and a celebration of creativity. SHORT SYNOPSIS 'If Paradise Is Half As Nice' is a project in which every summer 10 artists work and live with each other for five weeks in abandoned mostly squatted places. The challenge is to work from the given situation with the materials available on site. This edition, IPIHAN 10, takes place in Rotterdam at a large, empty, three-hectare bare 'concrete slab' on the edge of the city. Until the IPIHAN artists explore the terrain and find raw materials and concepts with which they set to work. DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT The IPIHAN style, making a within capitalist terms abounded place or space into a living and creative environment is indent on many level; it's artistic interesting and innovative, it's original, it's political, and its cradle to cradle practice is even ecological. It's an example how autonomous art touches all issues of life without making confessions, and as said before; a tribute to simple living, and a celebration of creativity.

**The Machine** - The Machine is a visual ode to the radio play of the same name by George Perec in which both the poem and its analysis amaze.

**RYOB** - Orange Red Yellow Blues The title refers to Mark Rothko. His work is abstract and very intense, it offers a spiritual experience. Emotions are not caused by the figuration, the experience of watching is introspective. For several years now I have been taking photos and filming the moment between day and night by the sea. By always being in the same place at the same time, in this 'Being in Twilight' you are disconnected from everyday hustle and bustle, you literally stand with your back to the world and see and experience the grand infinity and the temporary end before you. It's always the same and always different. For me, the experience of watching is similar to that of watching the work of Mark Rothko. It makes you wonder. And the ability to wonder is also the basis of being an artist. In the work I have translated a still image into a moving image, it emphasizes that the same thing is always different, it is no longer an image, it is about the experience you have as a spectator. Fragments of poems have been added to this work that express the experience of this 'Being in Twilight' in a personal way. A few sentences: air and water were one and without losing anything of their individuality. In a light coming from across the sea, which clarifies everything but explains nothing. Trying to imagine the unimaginable, the moment when it dawns on you that it is over and you are privileged to be able to watch for a while. You see, in despair, how the real and the imagined have become more and more closely intertwined. Silent , it's just a print of a movement in color.

**Mystiek en Verzet** - In 'Mysticism and Resistance' there is a permanent triptych in the Pauluskerk that makes the problems of the marginalized tangible, inspired by the theologian Dorothee Sölle's work of the same name in which amazement and involvement are linked.

**Pale Prospects** - Municipal holiday resort Rotterdam aan Zee. Townsmen in old summer houses bound by early songs. A place where the born and bred Rotterdammer spends his days. The Mayor and Aldermen have cut the knot and decided to sell it. The filmmaker is a resort habitant herself.

**Verblijvend in Rotterdam** - Poetic story about Syrian refugees living in Rotterdam. In collaboration with Rosh Abdelfatah Premiere at Arab Film festival.

**It Is Never Too Late To Say Sorry** - Trailer of the film 'It Is Never Too Late To Say Sorry:' A documentary about a place and the reception of a ritual work of art with writer and daily performer Wim Konings as the epicenter.
