Katja Verheul

The sixth edition of Studio Art Office x Off Screen is dedicated to new, distinctive film productions made possible by a contribution from Art Office (CBK Rotterdam). Featuring new work by Katja Verheul and Tess Martin, and a unique look into the making of Gerco de Ruijter's first feature film.

All filmmakers will be present in person and will be in conversation with Petra Laaper (CBK Rotterdam) and Luca Tichelman (Off Screen). All films will be shown with subtitles.

Improvised Objects will be screened as part of DISK at Worm (NL) on the 4th of March 2026.

The island Örö is a protected natural area that has been shaped by years of use as a military training ground. During my artist residency at the Örö, I will live, conduct research, and film on the island. I will create an experimental portrait of the long-term impact of military activities on the island. How have these activities shaped nature? How do the present and the past converge here, and what are the consequences?

During Open Studios an international group of 46 participating artists, designers, curators and writers will show what they have been working on the past year, in their studios, the exhibition spaces, Labs and other locations throughout and beyond the academy building. The works on show, the experiments, research and collaborative projects will give an insight into their work process and testify to the possibilities of the academy.

The Jan van Eyck Academy is committed to exploring the agency, roles, and civic significance of art, design and other creative practices in relation to the climate crisis, environmental breakdown, and their manifold effects. This institutional focus opens up a wide discourse and creates a framework that embraces a diversity of practices and allows for a multitude of voices.
