For Alexx Meidam (1954), painting is an expression in which, more than in other artistic media, the materiality of the work reflects. According to him, a patient reflection is characteristic of the painterly medium. Through the format and material stratification of the painting medium, he focuses on allowing the material to reflect itself. In addition to the material, there are mainly relationships in the foreground that form visual elements with each other. By collecting and attaching, the work of Alexx Meidam becomes a 'collection collée'. This produces metamorphosed images in which the medium lights up materially and mentally. Only in working through this double reflection does the confrontation with the medium become apparent and the elaboration of the motif becomes possible. The visual experience of this work leads to an ecstasy of consciousness.

The title suggests a sterile space, but Meidam plays with color, composition and framing. He examines the dimensions and frames of old masterpieces (Rembrandt, Malevich, Da Vinci, etc.) and combines them with modern painting. Whether he is working on his color fields, then painted words or mixed squares, Meidam always seeks the boundaries of the canvas and the essence of painting. He describes his work as a collection collée, the collection and bonding through the material layering of the painting medium. This method always provides him with new insights. This is also the case in the series 'Off-White', which consists of one or more canvases with non-uniform corners with the aim of creating a painting that gives you the feeling of getting to the core. The same space returns in his gouaches, suggesting a shape within a shape in an almost 3D way. Together with the special white that Meidam has created, the series gives an innovative view on painting.
